Where to go here

Tap a name to run it through search

  1. Bulguksa Temple

    불국사

A temple still standing on thousand-year-old Silla engineering.

    Must do

Pair it with Seokguram. A mountain path connects the two, but the bus saves an hour.

  2. Cheomseongdae

    첨성대

The oldest surviving observatory in East Asia.

    Must do

It reads far better at night once the lights come on. The fields around it change flower by season.

  3. Daereungwon Tombs

    대릉원

A park where royal tombs rise out of the ground like hills.

    Must do

You can walk inside Cheonmachong. In cherry and magnolia season the lane outside the wall draws bigger crowds than the tombs.

  4. Hwangnidan-gil

    황리단길

A street of hanok houses reopened as cafes and shops.

    Must do

Five minutes on foot from the Daereungwon gate. It fills up midday, so come early or near sunset.

Insider's note

The sites are scattered across the town, so a bicycle beats everything else. Rent one near Hwangnidan-gil and Daereungwon and Cheomseongdae link up on their own; only Bulguksa needs a bus.
