Anmok Coffee Street
안목 커피거리
A beachfront where the cafes all face the water.
See in search →Must do
This strip is why Gangneung is called a coffee town. For a morning sea view, look for the shops that open around 8.
Seoraksan
설악산
Reachable by cable car, and the first mountain in the country to turn color.
See in search →Must do
Cable car tickets to Gwongeumseong sell out by late morning in season. In autumn you need to be there early.
Sokcho Fish Market
속초수산시장
A market equally known for raw fish and sweet fried chicken.
See in search →Must do
The chicken stalls have long takeaway queues. Buy fish downstairs and eat it upstairs, or take it back to your room.
Surfyy Beach
서피비치
The beach that turned Yangyang into a surf town.
See in search →Must do
Beginner lessons go better in the calmer morning swell. In summer, book ahead or there may be no boards left.
Insider's note
Seoul to Gangneung is two hours by KTX, but there is no train onward to Sokcho or Yangyang — that leg is bus or car. If you want all three towns, rent a car.
